Classes take place every second Saturday from 10:00am to 11:45am: May 2, May 16, May 30, June 13. The class size will be kept small. Cost is $120 for the 4 classes.

Therapeutic Writing Classes

This is a class being offered by one of the other practitioners in my office. Thought some of you might be interested.

Melissa Melnitzer, MD CCFP, is facilitating an ongoing OHIP-covered Therapeutic Writing Group on Thursday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:45pm. The purpose is to provide a healing environment for participants to express themselves through writing and to partake in the writing of other group members. This shared creativity can offer personal growth opportunities as an adjunct to individual therapy. This is not a writing skills development forum.

There will be a maximum of 8 participants at any time. Participants must have an individual therapist. For participants who are not existing clients of Dr. Melnitzer, an intake session will be arranged to ensure adequate support is already in place, and that the group is appropriate for individual needs. Note that Dr. Melnitzer is not currently accepting new clients for individual therapy.

Infant Massage – Coming Soon!

For those who don’t receive my e-newsletter, I wanted to let you know that in May I’ll be taking a course on infant massage. The course is primarily designed to train Massage Therapists to become infant massage instructors, so they can teach parents (and other caregivers) how to massage their babies.

Infant massage is a great way for parents (or grandparents, or other important people in a baby’s life) to bond with their child. It’s also a lot of fun!

More details will be posted here when I’ve completed the course requirements and am ready to start teaching. In the mean time, if you or someone you know might be interested in such a class, or if you have questions, let me know by commenting here or sending me an email and I’ll be in touch once I’m set up.

Office Closed over Long Weekend

Just a quick note: I won’t be in the office over the Easter long weekend. I will return to the office with my regular hours on Tuesday, April 14th. As of right now, my next available appointment is on Wednesday, April 15th in the afternoon.

If you need to get in touch with me over the weekend, I will be checking emails regularly and will reply when I can.

I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend!

Weekly Fitness Fun – Cycling

Now that spring has officially arrived, people are starting to get their bikes tuned up and ready for spring riding. Or, they’re out shopping for a new bike, taking advantage of those early season sales.

If you’re looking for a place to take your bike in for a tune-up, or you want to buy a new bike, there are several in our neighbourhood, including:

Dave Fix My Bike – Just south of us on Christie. Tune-ups, repairs and some sales. Call ahead, as they aren’t open every day of the week.
Cyclemania – At Bloor and Ossington. Tune-ups, repairs and sales.
The Bike Joint – At Harbord and Manning. Tune-ups, repairs, used bikes and some accessories.
Curbside Cycle – Bloor near Brunswick. Tune-ups, repairs, bikes and accessories. A lot of higher-end stuff.

The Toronto Cyclists Union has a bunch of resources on their website, including a great map of bike shops in the city, which lists many more places for you to check out.

If you want to do your spring tune-up yourself, here’s a checklist of things to look for. I really do advise doing a tune-up before you head out, as you never know what might have come loose or broken while your bike was in storage over the winter (assuming, of course, you aren’t a winter rider!).

And last but not least, the city of Toronto has a cycling section of its website. It give information on bike lanes and routes, bike safety, bike parking, and other important things to know as you ride around the city.

Have a great week, everyone!
